Challenge

Based in Neuchâtel, with over 600 employees across six locations in Switzerland, CSEM is an internationally recognized innovation leader in precision manufacturing, digitalization, ultra-low-power electronics, optical elements, AI, and sustainable energy.

The communications team approached us on behalf of Freestudios to create a 2:20 communication video for use at trade fairs and on their website. The challenge was twofold:

  • Content constraints: we were provided with a PowerPoint presentation describing prototypes of future applications, with limited visuals and no video footage.

  • Format requirements: the video had to function both silently at fairs (visual storytelling only) and with music online, engaging diverse audiences from the general public to industry stakeholders.

Storytelling

To overcome these limitations, we crafted a narrative approach illustrating how CSEM’s technology could be applied across a wide range of everyday life situations. The storyline was designed to remain human and relatable, showing technology in service of life rather than as an abstract concept.

By blending stock footage, carefully selected to represent real-life scenarios, with graphic design and text overlays, we created a visual flow that brought clarity and coherence to the story while remaining within budget constraints.

This narrative positioning transformed a technical subject into a sensible, human-centered story — making health innovation tangible and accessible.

Process

  1. Script development - refining the narrative to highlight both CSEM’s expertise and its human impact

  2. Visual sourcing - curating stock footage and integrating existing CSEM shots

  3. Graphic overlays - designing a clean, coherent motion layer

  4. Dual-format adaptation - ensuring the film worked silently at fairs and musically online

  5. Editing & delivery - balancing pacing and rhythm for clarity, impact, and flexibility

Results

The final video successfully conveyed CSEM’s role in the digital health revolution, presenting advanced technologies in a way that was both engaging and accessible.

It gave CSEM a versatile communication tool — equally effective at international trade fairs and on their digital channels — that positioned their innovation as directly relevant to people’s lives.

The client was very satisfied with the collaboration and the outcome.
